We celebrate achievement of all kinds and when it comes to sport, there’s a lot to applaud.
Sporting successes are just as important as academic achievement here. Our teams compete at local and county level, and we also have athletes competing in sports at both national and international level.
A breadth of skills
All our students enjoy an extensive timetabled programme including netball, hockey, tennis, rounders and athletics.
Our curriculum offers great breadth, with students also participating in activities as diverse as touch rugby, zumba and lacrosse.
As well as our dedicated PE staff – we bring in specialist coaching, such as a hockey goal-keeping clinic or coaching our Year 10 and 11 rowers.
Sport for life
We promote a positive approach to sport; to introduce the joys of a healthy lifestyle and working with others; encouraging students to discover activities they may enjoy for a lifetime.
On our five-acre, all-weather sports ground on Latham Road, we have a modern pavilion and astroturf pitches for tennis and hockey, as well as all-weather netball courts and space for rounders, touch rugby or cricket. In school there is a dance studio, netball court and our stunning hall with stage for dance performances.
There are six houses, all named after illustrious former headmistresses or school governors – Cattley (royal blue), Clark (yellow), Kennett (red), Pollock (white), Rose (green) and Street (light blue). You’ll be attached to one when you join the school and will be able to represent your house in a number of competitive activities.
Awards are presented for individual achievements and to the houses that triumph in each sport. But in all activities, the emphasis is on teamwork, effort and enthusiasm, along with friendly competition and having fun.
The Sports Committee is for Year 11’s and it offers an opportunity for students to express their views on aspects of Sport at the school. The committee meet once a week to discuss matters and plan events.
They often plan a sporting charity event, which in the past has been a netball shooting competition. This year, the committee are organising staff v student matches in both basketball and netball. Students and staff will pay to watch the matches and there will also be food and drink on sale. The money will be donated to the charity of the term. The sports committee also help organise the Annual Sports Award Evening where prizes are awarded for many sports.
