Welcome from our

Head of School

Welcome to the Stephen Perse Cambridge Junior School. It is a genuine pleasure to introduce you to a community that is forward-thinking, warm, and unapologetically ambitious for every child. Here, we teach for both today and tomorrow, helping pupils build the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to thrive in a changing world.

We are not a quiet, formal institution; instead, we believe that deep learning comes from curiosity, exploration and challenge. Every child is supported to work at a level that is right for them, stretched when they are ready, and encouraged every step of the way. Most importantly, our pupils have a voice. They are celebrated, listened to, and valued for who they are.

I warmly invite you to enquire now and discover what makes our school such a vibrant, exciting place to learn.

Our Commitment

What makes us special

Located in the heart of Cambridge, a world-renowned centre of learning and culture, we prepare students for citizenship in an interconnected, fast-developing world.

  • An exceptional school

Our school offers an exceptional educational journey. Our unique blend of location, ambition, expertise and community spirit ensures that our pupils enjoy an education that is broad, inspiring and filled with opportunity, setting them up not only for academic success, but for a lifetime of curiosity and confidence.

  • Location benefits

Situated in the heart of Cambridge, we are perfectly placed, just moments from the station and within easy reach of our Senior School, Sixth Form, and superb sports facilities. This closeness allows our pupils to benefit from a seamless educational pathway from Kindergarten through to Sixth Form, supported by specialist teaching, shared resources across all phases of the school and a strong sense of continuity across all phases of our school.

  • Memorable experiences

We don’t simply teach subjects; we create purposeful experiences. In music, for example, pupils work towards our Spring Concert in the University of Cambridge’s renowned West Road Concert Hall.

  • Memorable experiences

To balance ambition with creativity and fun, we also host a vibrant Battle of the Bands competition at Cambridge Junction. It’s not every day that Year 5 and 6 pupils perform on the same stage as Lou Reed, Coldplay and Blur, not a bad way to start a musical journey.

  • Flexibility for busy parents

We also understand the needs of modern families, offering flexible access from 07:30 to 18:00. Our welcoming early drop-off and relaxed, drop-in approach are designed to support busy parents while providing pupils with a calm, purposeful start and end to each day.

  • Embracing the Cambridge community

Our community reflects the diversity and cultural richness of the city we serve. Cambridge’s global outlook is woven into the fabric of our school life, and we celebrate the unique experiences and perspectives our pupils bring with them. This diversity strengthens our curriculum, enriches our discussions, and helps our children grow into open-minded, confident young people.

  • Preparation for our Senior School

The journey from our Junior School to our Senior School is a natural and confident progression, one that feels seamless for pupils and reassuring for families. Our spiral curriculum is carefully designed to build knowledge, skills and habits of mind step by step, and by the time pupils reach the point of transition, they are not only ready for the next stage, they are excited for it. Our Junior School experience prepares pupils exceptionally well for Senior School life, academically, socially and personally, as our curriculum is designed to flow seamlessly into the next phase.

  • Senior School scholarship opportunities

As part of the Senior School transition, pupils also have the opportunity to be considered for our scholarship programme, recognising excellence in academic studies, music and sport. These awards celebrate achievement while nurturing developing talent, encouraging pupils to continue stretching themselves as they enter the Senior School.

  • Active Learners

    Our Curriculum

At Stephen Perse Cambridge, we encourage children to be active learners – to ask questions, to make mistakes and explore their interests and talents. Our approach is motivational, innovative, inspiring and highly creative.

By combining academic rigour with creative, flexible teaching, in the classroom, labs, playground and Forest School, we see our pupils grow as independent learners. Our pupils enjoy endless ways to discover their own strengths and gain life-long skills, as well as the confidence to take their next steps in education when they move on to Senior School.

  • Thematic approach

We organise learning into half-termly topics that connect ideas across subjects, to make meaningful connections and deepen understanding. Whether exploring history through art, science through geography, or literature through digital media, we bring learning to life.

  • Thinking toolkit

At the heart of everything we do is our Thinking Toolkit, a distinctive framework that encourages pupils to enquire, research, question, and create. It supports our commitment to developing agile thinkers who can collaborate, problem-solve, and approach challenges with confidence.

  • Inspiring and challenging

Our curriculum is designed to inspire curiosity, build confidence, and equip pupils with the skills they need for a changing world. Rooted in expert teaching and thoughtful design, it offers both depth and breadth so that every pupil is equally supported, challenged, and inspired.

  • Collaboration

Collaboration is central to our learning ethos. Pupils regularly work together to share ideas, test possibilities, and learn from each other’s perspectives.

  • The best teaching tools

Alongside this, we invest heavily in digital fluency, ensuring our pupils can learn and communicate in a variety of engaging and innovative ways. However, we also recognise that sometimes the simplest tools, pen and paper, are the most powerful, and we embrace these wholeheartedly.

  • Learning away from the classroom

    Co-curricular

From theatre trips and art exhibitions, to accessing a wealth of local opportunities in Cambridge - learning in context away from the classroom is integral to our curriculum, both within the timetable and through our clubs and societies. Below is just a small selection of what we offer.

  • Art

  • Chess

  • Cricket

  • Fencing

  • Football

    Our superb

    Facilities and resources

Our students benefit from the use of the latest digital technology in the classroom, and have access to a variety of superb study and recreational spaces.

They also have access to our sports ground, nature reserve, science labs, and professional music and drama spaces.

    Junior

    School Life

  • Inspirational moments

School life is wonderfully full, lively and varied, characterised by a sense of purpose, joy and curiosity that flows each day. Whether stepping onto a stage, discovering something new in a museum, working as a team, having outdoor adventures, taking part in hands-on investigations, or laughing with friends at the end of a busy day, school life is dynamic, stimulating and memorable.

  • A strong sense of community

Connection and community are central to the experience. Pupils learn alongside staff who know them well, support their growth and champion their individuality. Friendships are formed across year groups, confidence grows through shared experiences, and pupils feel a strong sense of belonging.

  • Nurturing confidence and independence

Our approach nurtures independence, resilience, creativity and confidence, empowering students to ask questions, take risks and celebrate the journey as well as the outcome.

  • Enjoying the learning experience

What defines daily life here is the experience of learning rather than simply the structure of it. Classrooms buzz with discussion, ideas are tested, voices are heard, and pupils discover that real learning can be both exhilarating and delightfully imperfect.

  • Spark Programme

As part of enriching this experience, our Spark Programme plays a central role. By inviting external speakers, specialists and inspiring guests into school, we ignite pupils’ curiosity and broaden their thinking. These moments of fresh insight and real-world connection embed a pathway of continued intrigue, ensuring learning remains dynamic, relevant and exciting.

    The next step

    Senior School

The continuity of our all-through approach means that the vast majority of our pupils move directly into our Senior School. They are already familiar with the environment, the ethos, many of the teachers and, most importantly, the expectations for learning. This familiarity removes the anxiety that can often accompany the leap into Year 7, allowing children to step forward with confidence, enthusiasm and a strong sense of belonging.
