We are always keen to encourage our sixth form students to look beyond their own lives and reach out to the wider community. Taking part in unique community projects and working with people from all walks of life gives a real sense of purpose and creates memories that will last forever.
Every year, our sixth form students get involved in a host of community outreach and social service activities. There's something for everyone, from holding a craft workshop at a local care home to running a sports day for primary school pupils.
Our sixth form art students have painted murals for local care homes and primary schools in
recent years, and those with a flair for theatre have helped run drama clubs, workshops and productions with younger pupils in local schools and the Foundation itself.
New since 2019 is our partnership with North Cambridge Academy (NCA), that sees Stephen Perse sixth form students deliver a programme of courses to students in various year groups at NCA. The programme has begun with English and will be expanding into other subjects over time. It’s a fantastic opportunity for our sixth form students and the students at NCA to develop skills in communication, collaboration and shared learning.
Students also get involved in fundraising activities throughout the year for local and national charities. You’ll be able to champion causes close to your own heart, as our students choose a ‘charity of the term’ and think up all sorts of fun initiatives to help make a difference.
Recent charities include Home Start, the Huntingdon’s Disease Association and the National Deaf Children’s Society. Our students have done everything from cake sales to designing and printing their very own charity cookbook!
Every year, our sixth form students also run their very own Charity Cabaret event, raising funds for a good cause. The acts are always eagerly anticipated and range from music and dance to comedy sketches, supported by a brilliant backstage crew.
The possibilities are endless when it comes to fundraising and charitable activities at the Stephen Perse Sixth Form. We’re here to help you make a real impact.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) is a recognised mark of achievement, valued and respected by universities and businesses alike. If you do DofE with us as a sixth form student, you’ll be going for the Gold Award, the highest level.
DofE offers you the chance to experience new things, help the community or environment, and build the skills and resilience you’ll need in life beyond college. The Volunteering section of the award means that you’ll commit to giving your time to help people, the community or society, the environment or animals - whatever means the most to you.
We are a Directly Licensed Centre for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, which means that we have a lot of autonomy in developing and running the best possible programme for our students.
An important part of helping our sixth form students look beyond their own lives and reach out to
the wider community is through the idea of global citizenship.
The idea that we all belong to one global community, a community that shares the same challenges and opportunities, can be hugely empowering. Young people have an important voice in the global community, and they need to know that they can make a positive difference.
So we help our students find their voice and engage with social, humanitarian and environmental issues through a broad and inclusive enrichment programme - from Model UN conferences to student journalism, there’s something for everyone.
